I can remember thinking when I was 10, how weird it would be in the year 2000, I did the maths, in 98 I would be 20 and in 2000 I would be 22, in 2001 23, and so on What? That’s ridiculous you’ll never be old and responsible. I tried to imagine the world, and yeah being really vain and all from a young age what i’d look like, obviously the result would have looked like a photoshop job of my 10 year old face on a body builders body. I think i had some vague fantasy of a long black haired girlfriend in a leather jacket as well and driving a fast car too. Standard stuff really. Well here it is the 2006 and really that still silly sounding number 2010 is not that far away. I imagined Back to the Future Part 2 style flying cars, and futuristic shiny clothes, videophones, hypersonic planes and of course robots. How many people thought this ? Well of course they did. Movies and tv all put our hopes up. So what do we have? The cars look pretty much the same and they don’t fly, videophones we don’t really have yet but we will (thanks to Big Brother it will be in your pocket instead) .hypersonic planes HAH! That beautifull masterpiece the Concorde which looked from the future in the 90’s (imagine how it looked in the late 60’s when it went into service) was retired because it was not profitable and it only went Mach 2 instead of the suborbital Mach 6+ (Aussie to Europe in 3 and a bit hours oh yeah) that a hypersonic plane would be. Futuristic clothes? Hahah did you have any idea back then how unoriginal, derivative, recycled fashion really is, if i could see the present back in 1988 i would have thought hmm what’s different!? Especially right now the tight black jeans, and the silly 80’s haircuts, I hate (hate, hate, hate, hate) the quiff thing girls think is oh SOO cool (if I had my way all chicks would would not be allowed to cut their hair above their shoulders) , how much more of a boy do you wanna look like? I can’t even describe it really i don’t have the vocabulary for it. Robots? Yeah right!
How sad…….. it’s all been pissed away on stupid wars to settle old scores (My God is bigger than yours and from what it seems America has the biggest God!), on trying to make as much money while producing and selling inferior and unnecessary items to as many people as possible, and if initially they don’t wanna buy it you repackage it in a flashier container. Finally you start to think that there is something wrong with you for not wanting to buy, for not having the latest and the greatest, for not being interested in reality TV (anyone see the movie of Fahrenheit 451 ?), for thinking that new fangled rock and roll is crap. So tell me people what should I get excited about?!!
I want my FUTURE BACK!
